Individualising Language Instruction in Digital Learning Environments: Implications for Linguistic Competence Development

This article investigates the theoretical foundations and practical implications of applying individualisation principles in digital learning environments for the development of linguistic competence. The affordances of Adaptive Learning Systems (ALS), artificial-intelligence-powered platforms, and digital portfolio methodologies for language teaching are examined. Effective approaches to the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital resources are proposed and critically evaluated. The study identifies both the distinctive advantages of digital individualisation over traditional classroom approaches and the additional challenges it introduces, arguing that optimal outcomes require a principled integration of digital tools within a broader humanistic pedagogical framework.
