Evaluating Translation Quality of ChatGPT and Human Translators in Literary Translation

This study evaluates and compares the translation quality of ChatGPT and human translators in the challenging domain of literary translation. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research assesses translations based on established criteria such as accuracy, fluency, stylistic fidelity, and cultural nuance. Findings reveal distinct strengths and weaknesses for both AI and human agents, highlighting ChatGPT's efficiency in basic rendition versus human translators' superior grasp of intricate literary devices and emotional depth. The study contributes to understanding the evolving role of AI in creative fields and offers insights for future human-AI collaboration in literary translation.
