Abstract

In the twenty-first century, critical thinking has become one of the most essential competencies for learners in an increasingly complex and information-rich world. Modern educational systems aim not only to develop students’ linguistic abilities but also to foster analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills. In the context of English language education, critical thinking plays a crucial role in enabling learners to interpret information, evaluate arguments, make informed decisions, and communicate effectively. The integration of critical thinking into English language teaching enhances learners’ cognitive engagement and promotes meaningful language use. This article explores the theoretical foundations of critical thinking, its significance in English language education, and contemporary pedagogical approaches for integrating critical thinking into language instruction. The study also examines the impact of critical thinking on learners’ language proficiency, academic achievement, and communicative competence.
